January 11 – February 11, 2018
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 11, 6-8pm
The reception includes – Relationalities: Betwixt and Between, performed by Danielle Ricci and Joshua Engebretson
The piece is comprised of four dances including two duets and two solos. The duets have been choreographed by researching the vision and theory behind the artist’s work resulting in choreography that is a physical representation of those ideas transformed into movement. The solos are improvised movement rooted in the foundation of Pratibha Gupta’s artwork. Much like painting or working with clay, an artist creates with energy, intent, and feeling- not knowing how a piece will look in the end. These dance pieces will take shape as the dancer uses the audience’s energy and the environment to create a unique piece for the evening.
The solos create a space for a masculine and feminine energy to establish themselves and then coming together as they create a balance between the the gods and goddesses, the light and the dark, man and nature, and the heavens and the earth finding Relationalities, Betwixt and Betweenit all.
Artist Talk: Thursday, January 25, 5:30 – 8pm
Born and raised in India, Pratibha Gupta immigrated to the United States in 1984. She has been a practicing artist for over 40 years – as a painter, potter, and sculptor in stone. Having lived her life in both hemispheres, her work is influenced by both South Asian as well as Western European themes. It is anchored in the rich ancient Indian culture and immersed in a spirit of adventure. The result is the unique diversity of expression that speaks to the modern intersectional experience.
