Playing off the idea of loose change, this series of colored pencil busts showcases not presidents or dignitaries but “everyday” people of different ages, races, genders, sizes, and abilities. Drawn photo-realistically, but in a variety of wildly vibrant color palettes, these pieces use a warts-and-all approach to find the beauty not only in the individual but, when viewed together, in our shared humanity as well. The pieces demand empathy from the viewer, as the slightly-larger-than-life people stare back out at them.
