From his early days with the John Coltrane Quartet to his current status as a living musical icon, Tyner has been hailed around the world as a master pianist, jazz stylist and one of the best living composers of the genre.

Preceding the concert at 7:15, Kevin Barnes will talk and facilitate a dialogue for interested concert goers. Kevin will discuss and explore some of his “Favorite Things” about the distinctive artistry and expression of McCoy Tyner and Gary Bartz. From Blues to Bop to Big Band, McCoy Tyner and Gary Bartz have had a revolutionary impact on the evolution of jazz.
Over the last 30 year, Kevin Barnes has been a familiar name to the Minnesota acoustic music and jazz scene as a musician, educator, Twin Cities Jazz Festival founder, radio show host and producer. Kevin is the host and producer for two popular programs which air on Jazz88 KBEM 88.5FM: String Theory and Bluesville.
