velocity 2: the art of motion
June 30 - August 3, 2012
Curated by Michael Jekot and Doug Meythaler
Velocity 2: the Art of Motion celebrates the art of the automobile through the eyes of contemporary American artists. We have selected artists whose works capture the imagination, emotion, desire and excitement of all things automotive, just like early automotive innovators.
As you walk the exhibit you will see this demonstrated in cast bronze, photography, paintings on canvas or simple sketches. Each Velocity 2 artist looks at the automobile, or in some cases motorcycle, in a different way, a push of clay to denote forward motion, the spray of spattered paint to demonstrate the splash of air rushing across a fender or the streak of taillights from a photographer’s point of view. All are honoring the past while pushing the creative envelope today.
The invited artists of Velocity 2 are very special and at the top of their professions. The criteria for inclusion in this exhibit were that each participant artist demonstrates a strong understanding of the automobile or motorcycle and medium in which they work. Each artist brings their passion to Velocity 2 and asks only that you spend a moment inside their vision.
